Flaunt Magazine Q&A

Remy Lagrange is the Chicago-born New York-based photographer glamorizing unconventional “beauty.” An aficionado of all things sin, Lagrange highlights the nitty-gritty nightlife juxtaposed with portraits and landscapes. His signature theme of layered media comes from a frustrated state concerning today’s market of oversaturated content. This month, Remy debuted his recent body of work, “The Wages Of Sin,” at Russian Samovar.

Remy Lagrange’s lens is singing an epic indie rock ballad. Each photograph forms a beguiling verse in a song we cannot hear, but instead we strangely feel—the reverb of a guitar riff wafting over the pictures from an uncanny presence that seems to linger barely out of sight, the camera about to turn and capture the puckish balladeer, but never does.

In the world of Mark Gonzales nothing—even performance art—is calculated. Leaving the door open to chance is how he’s weaved in and out of the traps and tropes of skateboarding for over 30 years, creating his own language and simultaneously defining its artistry. Thursday night, July 12 as part of adidas Skateboarding’s Das Days programming in New York City, Gonzales was billed as performing a “recreation of his 1998 performance at Städtisches Museum Abteiberg” at Milk Studios.
